In 1976, a merry band of eccentrics had a dream that was as sweet as it was crazy: to create, in the heart of Paris, a gathering place for all lovers of classic cars. A unique place where passion, exchange, and transmission would be the watchwords. Simply named Rétromobile, this dream has stood the test of time and celebrated its 50th anniversary.
This 50th anniversary was an opportunity to celebrate those who, for half a century, have been able to see the automobile in a different light. Through a unique exhibition bringing together for the first time the BMW Art Cars that raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rétromobile paid tribute to these machines that have become works of art, to these cars that have transcended their mechanical condition to become part of cultural history. This same audacity was evident in the exhibition dedicated to the sole survivor of the Bugatti railcars, an invitation to rediscover the genius of the eponymous visionary, but also in the tributes paid to Steve McQueen and the world of rallying, a world of adventure, surpassing oneself, and singular destinies.
ALONG THE AISLES
For its 50th anniversary, Rétromobile pulled out all the stops. The formula that has made this international show unique has been further refined. In pavilions 4 and 7, visitors found all the major players in the classic and collector car world, as well as modern supercars, some of which are already collector's items. Rétromobile also remains the place to discover your favorite brand or model club, meet the organizers of the biggest events, buy a vehicle, find a part, scale models, books or literature related to transportation, automotive decorative items, and all the equipment needed to drive a classic or modern classic car. All services were also available: insurance, expertise, maintenance, restoration, and sales.
