Peaks of the Adriatic Pre-War.

The Balkans attract more and more tourists and there is every reason to do so, it has a vast coastline flooded with sun, mighty and wild mountains and people are hospitable.

After leaving the car sleeper train, on our way to the starting hotel, we drive through the Dolomites (we advise you to arrive a few days earlier with the car sleeper train in this direction). From the castle in Cividale del Friuli we drive towards the Croatian coast to the Grand Hotel in Crikvenica. From there we drive via Zadar in two days over the cliffs overlooking the Adriatic Sea to the old town of Split. We stay in two historic buildings on the central square in the center of the city.

We leave the coast to Bosnia and Herzegovina. As we approach our destination, Mostar, we see the mountains rising high. We drive some of the most beautiful roads, over passes and through villages from another time to Montenegro. Our modern and stylish hotel doesn't seem to be right, but the next day we understand it. We drive through the second largest gorge in the world, 82 km long and at some point 1200 m deep.

In Albania we stay in the small town of Shköder with the mountains as a beautiful background. We leave the - relatively - populated coast for the mountains. It is another beautiful drive in the valley to the lake Debar and Macedonia.

We head south and come along Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa, the first is one of the deepest lakes in the world and because of its unique ecosystem included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. We cross Montenegro again for our last border crossing to Greece. We will have covered about 1,750 km upon arrival at the last hotel on Lake Kastoria.

It is a last 230 km to Igoumenitsa where the ferry will take us to Ancona.
