The new dates for the 2013 Liege Rome Liege are set. Start September 22 and finish in San Remo on September 27 in San Remo.

Since its inception in 1927, the legendary “Liege” has provided the ultimate challenge for men and machinery on long distance rallies. Through the intervening years, the event has ranged far and wide over Europe, with destinations as varied as Biarritz, Madrid, Sofia and of course Rome.

In 2011, Bart Rietbergen, with the support of the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium, resurrected this famous rally for cars of the period when the “Liege” was in its heyday. Although modern life now prevents events running non-stop, the experienced team at Classic Events ensures that the present day Liege still honours its historic roots whilst continuing to provide a unique challenge for the motoring enthusiast.

In September 2013, the Liege heads for a new destination, San Remo, on the Italian Riviera. Not only does this famous resort have an illustrious rallying history of its own, but the route there will take you over some of the highest passes and spectacular roads in the French and Italian Alps. Roads that few have heard of, let alone driven…

Additionally, in line with the event's reputation for innovation, the 2013 Liege will offer not one, but TWO events for your entry fee. The whole event lasts six days, but only five of those will be taken up with the regularities and tests that count towards the results of the main rally. Day four, centred in the French Alps, will be a unique, stand-alone event called the “Coupe des Cols” which will have its own results and awards. This one day event is based on the “Mountain Challenge” concept pioneered a couple of years ago by Keith Baud, who we welcome back to the organising team to work alongside Mark Appleton.

There is no additional fee to enter this one day event, and there is no compulsion to do it – you can take the day off if you wish. However, you will be missing one of the most enjoyable days motoring you will probably ever have, with special awardsat the end for the most successful…

During its long and illustrious history The Marathon de la Route (to give it its proper title) has always attracted the cream of Europe’s rally drivers. Past winners include Oliver Gendebien, Willy Mairesse, Lucien Bianchi, Eugen Boehringer, Rauno Aaltonen and Pat Moss. Why not join us in September to add YOUR name to that list?
