A rare piece of East German industrial history, carefully restored to its original glory: this 1939 Framo 901/1 Pick-up is an extraordinary find that will appeal to any collector or enthusiast of pre-war utility vehicles. Framo – short for “Frankenberg Motorenwerke” – laid the foundation during these years for what would later become the well-known Barkas brand. The 901/1 stands as an early witness to that technological evolution and societal role.

Originally developed as a compact, light commercial vehicle, the Framo 901/1 offered a practical solution for local trades, rural transport, and urban logistics. Its forward-thinking four-wheel design, based on Framo’s earlier three-wheelers, made it remarkably agile and stable. The robust ladder frame and simple two-stroke technology created a surprisingly versatile vehicle.

This particular example from 1939 has been fully restored. The wooden loading bed was artisanally rebuilt, the bodywork professionally blasted and repainted in a period-correct color scheme. The two-cylinder two-stroke engine was completely overhauled and runs smoothly. The interior was also entirely restored with respect for the original layout.

Highly versatile and a real eye-catcher at events, this Framo is especially popular as a coffee truck or promotional vehicle. With its charming, compact appearance and historical presence, it effortlessly draws attention from both young and old.

It is Belgian inspected and registered, ready to hit the road—but what truly makes this vehicle exceptional is its original German registration booklet from 1939. This rare document, kept until the late 1950s, serves as unique proof of the vehicle’s long and authentic history.
