There was also a completely new dashboard painted in black shrink paste. The leaf springs were replaced by "regular" semi-elliptical springs, making the car's handling a bit less nervous than its predecessors. The most important change under the hood concerned an improved version of the 1100 cc engine. An enlargement of the crankshaft main bearings made this engine significantly more resistant to higher revs. The engine was also equipped with an improved head with larger intake valves. In combination with an improved exhaust system, this led to a slightly higher power of 59 hp at 5750 rpm. The grille remained unchanged from the MkII, as did the hood badge. The round center section of the badge was identical to the original MkI badge and featured the Austin motif. From the MkII, the badge was provided with "wings", as we already knew from the badge of the Big Healeys.
