AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix 2010
The AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix is traditionally and quite rightly
the highlight of the season for European classic enthusiasts. From
the 13th - 15th. August 2010 a host of unique racing cars
stretching over eight decades was seen at the Nürburgring. Among
the highlights of the weekend counted first and foremost the
historical Formula-1 cars. They haave been very welcomed guests to
the Automobilclub von Deutschland; the AvD has after all been,
since 1926, the organiser of the German Grand Prix.
Accordingly, the automobile guests were simply top-class that
are to be expected at the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix. In the race for
the "Grand Prix Masters" memories of the legendary 70's was
re-awakened: The 3-litre Formula-1 cars originate from the years
between 1966 and 1985. It was the era of stormy technical evolution
and irrepressible driving talent, on the Grand-Prix cars wings grew
for the first time which enabled improvements in the aerodynamics.
The constructions of those years, before the development of
"Ground-Effect-Cars", with an aerodynamic underbody looked
sometimes adventurous, at times however surprisingly modern. The
German Formula-1 race was mostly run in those years at the
Nürburgring, where drivers like Jackie Stewart, Jacky Ickx, Clay
Regazzoni and Niki Lauda determined the events. It was also Lauda,
who in those years in the feared "Green-Hell" pushed the pole-time
down to under seven minutes.
Successful models dating from those years were found in the
starter-list at the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix: like for instance the
McLaren M23/4 from the time as Emerson Fittipaldi won his second
world championship title, or the Brabham BT24 that was driven by
Jack Brabham at the end of the 60's.
