Le Mitiche Sport a Bassano
Born in 1995 from an
idea of the Calmonte Brothers, Danilo and Renato, The so-called "Le
Mitiche Sport a Bassano", is a car competition, where the timer is
only an excuse!
There is a parade in Bassano, a reliability course in places of
beautiful scenery and landscapes, but beyond the enthusiasm for the
competition, there is much more: there is friendship making people
come back to Bassano, to see each other and spend an idyllic
weekend, there is a show and the protagonists are the pilots and
their wives, girlfriends, and families.
In this event many other values are important: family, friendship,
and the love for sports cars.
This three-day long meeting, devoted to the "Le Mitiche Sport a
Bassano", is also an important tourist occasion: every year the
route is rich in landscape and eating surprises. Mountain roads
take the competitors in contact with a natural environment not very
well known, but of great emotional impact. The welcome in these
places is always enthusiastic: tables prepared with the products of
our land. Different kinds of cheese and sausages, wines and local
brandies, even tripe attracted the competitors. Its impossible not
to run through those roads again with friends and relatives, to
enjoy again the beauty of the places, the spell of certain
foreshortening, the history of our stones and to taste the savours
of our kitchen.
The two-seaters present to the annual meeting in Bassano are more
than 100. It is so difficult to say which car is the most
beautiful. They all have a peculiar charm. And if you observe them
all, as a group, set in a row, in Libertà Square, they take away
your breath.
The first time there were only 36 cars, but now it is necessary
to put a restraint to the applications. A great success for Renato
and Dalilo Calmonte, inventors and organisers of the race, a
success on which not too many would have bet 8 years ago. In fact,
the exclusivity of the meeting has to be considered: only the
"barchetta", open sports cars, built within 1960, can apply to the
race.
Months of work but also a great satisfaction to find out that the
"Le Mitiche Sport a Bassano" always have an audience of thousands
of people. Therefore things become even greater. Nothing is done
for the sake of gain, but everything is done to create a dreaming
weekend: luxury hotels, fabulous lunches and dinners, great
landscapes, wonderful parades. Everybody can still see the images
of the town night course performed in 2000 and 2001.
To give even more prestige and glamour to the meeting, the
Trophy "La Manovella d'Oro" (an A.S.I. acknowledgement to the best
events of epoch cars of different types): awarded for 5 years
running. In 2001, the event "Le Mitiche Sport a Bassano" was
considered the best among the regularity trials.
